Terms of business
This page explains where the binding documents are and what they cover. It is an orientation, not the contract.
The binding documents
A contract for Shelltrap is concluded in our shop and client area at shop.shelltrap.com . The documents shown and accepted there during checkout are the binding ones:
- the general terms and conditions (Allgemeine Geschäftsbedingungen) of Panomity GmbH,
- the licence terms for the Shelltrap software, of which an extract is published at licence terms ,
- the product description and price as displayed at the moment of ordering.
If anything on this website contradicts those documents, those documents apply. If you would like to read them before you start an order, ask us and we will send them: hallo@panomity.de .
How the contract comes about
Presenting the product and its price on this website is an invitation to order, not a binding offer. The contract comes into existence when we accept your order — in practice, when the licence is created and the key appears in your client area.
Subscription, invoicing and cancellation
Shelltrap is sold as a subscription per server, billed monthly or annually in advance. Prices shown on this site include German VAT at 19 %; business customers elsewhere in the EU with a valid VAT identification number are invoiced net under the reverse-charge procedure.
Subscriptions renew for the period you chose until they are cancelled. Cancellation is done in the client area, and the exact notice period is stated in the terms and conditions and on your invoice.
What a licence covers
One licence covers one server, identified by a fingerprint derived from /etc/machine-id,
including every domain and account on that machine. Moving a licence to another server is
supported: shelltrap license deactivate releases the activation slot and
shelltrap license activate claims it on the new host.
Without an active licence, the software does not receive signature updates and does not scan. The precise behaviour is documented under licensing .
Free trial
Shelltrap can be tried before you commit to a subscription. The requirements, the two trial lengths, and what happens when a trial ends are set out in full on the trial page ; this section states where a trial stands contractually.
Getting a trial. You need a customer account in our client area and a confirmed email address at a domain that is not a disposable mailbox service — those are turned away at sign-up. The free trial period itself never creates a payment obligation, whether or not a payment method is on file.
Duration and scope. The trial runs 14 days in report-only mode. Storing a payment method — credit card or PayPal — extends the same trial to 30 days from the day it started, and unlocks the full product except automatic quarantine, which stays on report until a paid licence takes over.
Bound to one server and one customer. A trial is tied to a server fingerprint — the same one a paid licence uses — and to the customer account that requested it. There is one trial per server and one per customer, permanently: a server or an account that has already had a trial does not get another.
No extension by technical means. Changing the system clock, reinstalling the software, or otherwise interfering with the daily online renewal does not add days to a trial; it simply runs its course from the day it started.
End of the trial. Scanning and feed updates stop. Nothing already found or already quarantined is deleted, and you can order a licence at any time without reinstalling anything.
Conversion to a subscription. A 30-day trial turns into the monthly subscription only if you gave separate, explicit consent to that when you ordered — a button that says plainly that the trial becomes chargeable after 30 days. Without that consent, the trial simply ends and nothing is charged. If you are a consumer and did give that consent, your statutory right of withdrawal begins when you place that order, not on the day the trial would otherwise become chargeable — the section on consumers below explains how withdrawal works.
Cancelling. An agreement to continue after 30 days is cancelled the same way any subscription is: in the client area, with effect for the end of the current term.
Misuse. Signing up repeatedly, giving false account details, or manipulating a server fingerprint to obtain a trial you are not entitled to ends the trial immediately, and may exclude the server and the account from further trials.

Consumers
Shelltrap is aimed at operators of hosting servers and is therefore a business product. If you nevertheless order as a consumer, your statutory rights — including the statutory right of withdrawal for distance contracts and statutory warranty rights — apply in full and are not restricted by anything on this page. The withdrawal instructions are supplied with the order documents.
Dispute resolution
The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr . We are not willing or obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Governing law and place of jurisdiction
German law applies. Where the law permits an agreement on jurisdiction — that is, in dealings with merchants, legal entities under public law and special funds under public law — the place of jurisdiction is Munich. Mandatory consumer protection provisions are unaffected.
